Bulkheads & seawalls
Timber bulkhead replacement in LBI & Southern Ocean County, NJ
Tier D · 32 towns covered
Like-for-like replacement in CCA-treated timber, where the lot or the look calls for it. Same structure as vinyl, different material.
If this is what your wall is doing, you're not the first owner on this stretch of bay to run into it.
What people notice first
- A wall the marine surveyor has called end-of-life
- Sections of sheeting that have blown out or gone missing
- Wales and tie-back hardware rusted through
- A timber wall soft or hollow at the tide line
The usual approach
Some owners still replace like-for-like in CCA-treated timber, and on certain lots or for a matching look it makes sense. The build is the same idea as vinyl — sheeting, wales, tie-backs to a deadman, and a cap — but the material choice changes cost and lifespan. A contractor should be honest about vinyl versus timber for your specific wall.
$150 – $350 per linear foot — typical range, not a quote. What your home needs can only be settled by a registered contractor who comes out and looks at it.
The paperwork usually runs longer than the work. Because this fronts tidal water, expect NJDEP waterfront development or CAFRA review and tidelands documentation alongside the town permit. The right contractor handles that as part of the job.

Towns we cover for this
Only the areas where this work actually applies.
Lagoon & canal communities
Dredge-and-fill neighborhoods where nearly every lot has a bulkhead on a sheltered canal. The dense heart of the work.
Open bayfront
Mainland and bay-edge shorelines with real fetch, where wave energy is high and riprap comes up as often as a vertical wall.
Barrier island & inlet
Long Beach Island end to end, from Barnegat Inlet down to Holgate — high exposure, salt air, working waterfront, and the biggest replacement jobs.
Northern barrier island & bay
The northern barrier island strip — Lavallette and Ortley Beach — where the work sits on the bay side and takes fetch straight across open Barnegat Bay from the west.
